Global Secure Containers are here and capable of shipping sensitive cargo around the world. The GSC is a highly customizable solution for secure global, intermodal shipping of sensitive cargo. It is the only ISO-certified secure intermodal shipping container that provides six-sided intrusion detection, real-time tracking, and monitoring. Taking this advanced shipping container from idea to implementation took many years and many minds. Take a look at the journey.

The Birth Of GSS

The Birth Of GSS

In 2003, the process of designing and testing began at the University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center. This development phase continued until 2012.

The Prototype

The Prototype

Throughout 2013 and 2014, the GSS shipping container prototype received the approval necessary to move forward with production. The Global Secure Container technology developed at the University of Maine Advanced Structures and Composites Center was supported through funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Advanced Research Projects Agency (HSARPA). The six-sided intrusion detection system was developed by the Georgia Tech Research Institute, also through funding from DHS HSARPA.

Generation 1: The Testing & Trials – Virginia Trip Monitoring Details

During a winter trip from Maine to Virginia, we closely monitored the container’s location, response to road stress, and temperature inside and outside of the container. The truck and container traveled through a series of truck washes and rough roads to determine whether these events could falsely trigger a safety alarm.  The container’s built-in monitoring system reported no false alarms through this testing. And the GSS team were able to monitor the container’s exact location throughout the trip.

Generation 1: The Testing & Trials – Drill Test

While administering the drill test, the Global Secure Container security system reported back in mere moments that damage had been caused to the container.

Generation 1: The Testing & Trials – Drop Test

A 14kg weight dropped from a meter height would cause a dent in any normal steel panel. The Global Secure container security system reported no damage and signaled no “false alarm.
