Global Secure Container Specifications
GSS’s Global Secure Container (also known as the Secure Hybrid Composite Intermodal Container) is an ISO-1496/1 and CSC Annex II certified shipping container providing advanced security features, while meeting all the operational, structural, and customs requirements of standard steel 20ft and 40ft shipping containers. This level of security is not currently available for government or commercial use. It is fully and seamlessly interchangeable with existing steel shipping containers and is visually difficult to distinguish from a steel container. The Global Secure Container provides six-sided protection for commercial shipping containers.
GSS’s Global Secure Container technology was originally developed at the University of Maine Advanced Structures and Composites Center with funding from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Advanced Research Projects Agency (HSARPA). The six-sided intrusion detection system was developed by the Georgia Tech Research Institute, also through funding from DHS HSARPA.
GSS’s Global Secure Container offers full security verification through supply chain transit lanes; automated verification of container security prior to its transit release and multiple security options that can be tailored towards the specific cargo, transit routes, and final destinations. The container includes an advanced security system consisting of a hole/intrusion detection system for all six sides of the container, a door opening detection system, and a two-way communications system which reports security events and tracking information. The hardware and security system are designed to be modular and expandable so that additional security features and sensors can be integrated into the basic system. The security system hardware is robust and difficult to compromise as it is embedded within the thickness of the container’s composite walls, ceiling and floor panels.
